Race for Rainforest | Meet Akkar
Meet Akkar’s team of Race for Rainforest 2023 fundraisers, who travelled the distance to raise cash for rainwater capture tanks in Papua New Guinea. Not only did the team fundraise £565, Akkar has matched their efforts – totalling a fantastic £1,130. We found out a little more about how and why they chose to Race for Rainforest.
Who are Akkar?
Akkar is a head-hunting and engineering consultancy, specialising in the automotive industry. We have been helping organisations source, utilise and develop their Human Capital since 2014. Today we have offices in the UK and the USA, with further plans for expansion.
How did you find out about Cool Earth?
Our engineers and key clients are helping shape the future for clean and sustainable mobility. Therefore, our leadership team felt compelled to partner with a charity that not only focused on the longevity and sustainability of our planet, but also helping those who live on it.
Why did you choose to take part in Race for Rainforest this year?
Our staff voted on which environmental partnership for 2023 they wanted to support. As Cool Earth protects endangered rainforests in order to combat global warming, protect ecosystems and provide employment for local people, it made sense for us to pick Race for Rainforest as our fundraiser. Race for rainforest was not only a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a good cause, but we also believed that our staff would benefit from a challenge that focused on being outdoors and active in nature.
How did people take part? Do you know how many miles you all did combined?
11 of our office participated in the challenge including recruitment consultants, commercial administrators, HR teams and the CEO! We achieved 570 miles combined.
How did the team go about fundraising?
Running, walking, hiking, cycling and rollerblading were the main activities. The team racked up their miles in various locations including Ibiza, Clapham Common, Lewes, the River Thames and along the beach in Brighton and Hove. The total sum raised from staff, and their friends and family was doubled by Akkar.
