Cool Earth’s 2024 Impact

Thanks to your incredible support, 2024 has been a year of groundbreaking impact. Each achievement brings us closer to tackling the climate crisis while keeping rainforests standing strong.

As a climate charity dedicated to protecting rainforests by supporting the people that live there, we at Cool Earth have so much to be thankful for this year. But we couldn’t have done it without you.

Here’s a look at what we’ve achieved together in 2024.

Basic Income Pilot Success

This year marked the first full year of our Basic Income pilot. Over 200 people from Indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest had their basic needs met, empowering them to focus on long-term sustainability and forest conservation.

Our data shows that over the last year, families in the three participating rainforest communities now have better access to food, are able to spend more time growing their own food and are more involved in conservation efforts in the rainforest.

Rainforest Lab in Papua New Guinea

We launched our first-ever rainforest lab in Papua New Guinea, combining cutting-edge technology with traditional conservation knowledge. This groundbreaking initiative enables local communities to monitor and protect their forests more effectively than ever before.

The next steps for 2025 is to train local community members to run the lab and become the first team of forest monitors in Papua New Guinea.

Wildfire Strategy in Peru

In the Peruvian Amazon, our partnership with CARE launched the PAAMARI wildfire prevention strategy, named after the Indigenous Asháninka word for “fire.” This project has already achieved remarkable results:

  • 275 Asháninka community members trained in wildfire prevention.
  • Fires in the region have been reduced by over 64%.
  • Indigenous-protected areas are now 100 times less at risk from wildfires.

Our Total Rainforest Impact

These 2024 milestones have contributed to extraordinary overall impact on the rainforest. Together, we’ve ensured that:

  • 2.1 million acres of rainforest has been protected – 263 times the size of Central London.
  • 380 million tropical trees still standing tall.
  • 500 million tonnes of carbon kept out of the atmosphere – equivalent to the annual emissions of 39 million people in the UK.
  • 99% of rainforest is kept intact in the areas we work.

As we celebrate these achievements, we’re also preparing for 2025. As the challenges to protecting our planet grow, your support really does keep these vital rainforest ecosystems rooted and thriving.

To continue this momentum, we’re launching our annual December Match Funding Campaign to raise £185,000. Every donation will be doubled this December, meaning you can have twice as much impact.

DONATE NOW

With your help, we can build on this year’s successes, protect even more rainforests, and create a healthier planet for everyone.

From everyone at Cool Earth, thank you for making 2024 a year of hope and progress. Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a thriving 2025!
