A Tribute to Susannah Boddie, 1996 – 2023
We are deeply saddened about the passing of Cool Earth supporter Susannah Boddie in August this year and send our heartfelt condolences to Susannah’s family and her partner Robert.
In 2021, Susannah and her dad Simon took on the challenge of cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats and raised funds for Cool Earth along the way. In just two weeks, they covered 1,000 miles and raised over £2,500 for climate action.
Susannah led an impactful and inspirational life as an avid athlete and fundraiser and helped to lead Britain through the COVID-19 pandemic in her role as the UK government’s lead health data scientist. We are beyond grateful for Susannah’s passion for the environment and the health and the welfare of all living things. The world needs more people with her enthusiasm, energy and passion.
We are honoured to have been chosen alongside The Trussell Trust by Susannah’s family as a charity to support in tribute to her life.
Susannah was passionate about the environment, and fair access to healthcare. We are therefore directing all gifts received in memory of Susannah to our Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) project in Papua New Guinea.
The focus of this project is to provide clean drinking water, sanitation and waste management solutions, and deliver health and hygiene education to over 1,200 people in our partnership communities of Gadaisu, Sololo, Wabumari and Wadauda in Papua New Guinea.
This project will strengthen the resilience and health of rainforest communities, helping them to continue living in and protecting their rainforest home.
Continuing on Susannah’s fundraising legacy, Robert took part in his first triathlon, the Cascais Half Ironman 2023, this October in her memory. Robert completed this incredible challenge in 5h20m, while raising funds for Cool Earth. If you would like to support Robert’s Half Ironman in memory of Susannah, please find his JustGiving appeal here.
